Elmer’s Restaurant is a South Tacoma staple and is number one on our list of favorite breakfast places for so many reasons. Elmer’s serves breakfast all day long, and the menu options are incredible and include savory or sweet crepes, German pancakes, and hug and rolled omelets. Elmer’s has a large dining room and ample tables to accommodate large and small groups and makes a great place for a big brunch meet-up with the whole family. Elmer’s is hands-down the best breakfast place in Tacoma if you are looking for a sit-down, casual breakfast.

2. Red Elm Cafe

Red Elm Cafe is located in central Tacoma minutes away from Commencement Bay, and is a favorite breakfast spot for many Tacoma locals. They have earned 4.5 out of 5 stars on Yelp, and for good reason – their food is amazing. They have a simple breakfast menu that includes items such as waffles – both sweet and savory, breakfast sandwiches, and hash browns. All menu options have a vegan and gluten-free alternative. There are also fun menu options such as waffle dogs, Aussie toast, and a yogurt parfait. The coffee is delicious as well!

Red Elm Cafe is open between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM daily, except for on Sundays when it is open between 8 AM and 4 PM.

3. Waffle Stop

Waffle Stop is a trendy restaurant in the Proctor District of Tacoma and serves up all different kinds and concoctions of waffles – including their infamous pearl sugar waffle that is absolutely to die for. The establishment is rather new to the area as it only opened in 2018, but it quickly became a favored breakfast spot in Tacoma.

The dining room itself is very monochrome with accents of blue and yellow that fit right in and put you in a great mood, and the staff is always cheery and provides great service. The menu has a wide variety and is chocked full of great options including omelets, scrambles, and oatmeal. They even offer sandwiches served on – you guessed it – waffles! The waffles themselves are delicious and so soft and fluffyΒ – and the pearl sugar literally melts in your mouth, it is so incredible.

4. Pacific Southern

Pacific Southern is a restaurant that serves southern-style breakfast and brunch and is located in South Tacoma, close to the Tacoma Mall. The restaurant serves up hearty breakfast cuisine such as chicken fried steak, chicken and waffles,Β  and biscuits and gravy. It also offers menu options on the sweeter side like french toast and waffles. The ambiance of the restaurant is clean and monochrome, with wooden accents. Southern Pacific has a big dining room, but it does fill up fast on the weekends due to how incredible their food is!

Pacific Southern is open between the hours of 7 AM and 8 PM seven days a week and serves breakfast all day.

Marcia’s Silver Spoon is what you would call a “greasy spoon diner” and it is located on South Tacoma Way in Central Tacoma. The inside of the restaurant is exactly what you would expect it to be – rather vintage looking, colorful, and always crowded with customers who love the food and the great customer service. The breakfast menu includes options such as omelets, biscuits and gravy, and eggs benedict. The hashbrowns are warm and crispy, and the eggs are cooked to perfection no matter which way you order them!

6. Dirty Oscar’s Annex

Dirty Oscar’s Annex is a restaurant/bar on 6th Avenue in North Tacoma that serves breakfast and amazing mixed drinks. Their menu features uncommon options such as meat-stuffed waffles and dead Elvis french toast – which consists of a yummy concoction of candied bacon, peanut butter, and banana. They also serve things like shrimp and grits, and biscuits and gravy. Dirty Oscar’s Annex is a 21 and over restaurant, so you’ll have to leave the kiddies at home to try it out, but it is definitely worth the cost of a babysitter!

The Jewel Box Cafe is located on the gorgeous Ruston waterfront and is famous in Tacoma for its sweet espresso and incredibly delicious crepes. The restaurant serves the best specialty crepes in Tacoma, with menu options such as its strawberry nutella crepe. It also serves savory crepes such as its smoked salmon crepe (yum!), as well as options like breakfast sandwiches and loaded English muffins. The food tastes like it has the freshest ingredients, and tastes so good! The best aspect of the Jewel Box Cafe is dining in their huge elegant dining room with a view of the Tacoma Waterfront!

The Hob Nob Restaurant & Lounge is a small hole-in-the-wall diner located in the Stadium District in Tacoma, across from beautiful Wright Park. They also serve sweet options such as waffles and pancakes, but I would recommend ordering a benedict dish, as their hollandaise sauce is perfectly crafted.

If you are ever in Tacoma looking for the absolute best donuts that you can find, look no further than Pao’s Donut & Coffee Shop. The restaurant itself gives off a retro 90s donut shop vibe and is like stepping through a time portal to when Dunkin Donuts actually made good donuts. The boxes are hot pink, and the donuts in the glass case are always FRESH. The donuts themselves are cooked to perfection – always fluffy and soft, with just the right amount of sweetness. The cinnamon rolls that the restaurant serves are the size of your head and will satisfy any sweet tooth. When visiting Pao’s, make sure to stop at the ATM first as the restaurant is cash only.

Southern Kitchen is one of those restaurants that makes it hard to decide what to eat – because everything on the menu looks so good!
